Etran De L’Aïr
About
Etran de L'Aïr, which translates to "Stars of the Aïr region," is a dynamic Nigerien rock band hailing from Agadez, the capital city of Saharan rock. Founded in 1995, this family collective has been playing for over 25 years and has emerged as stars of the local wedding circuit. The band is composed of brothers and cousins, all born and raised in the small neighborhood of Abalane, who are sons of nomadic families that settled in Agadez in the 1970s. Etran de L'Aïr's music is characterized by its hypnotic solos, sun-drenched melodies, and a unique blend of influences ranging from Northern Malian blues to Hausa bar bands and Congolese Soukous. Their sound invokes the vibrant atmosphere of Agadez, featuring an abundance of guitars with simultaneous solos that playfully interweave. The band has released three studio albums: "No. 1" in 2018, "Agadez" in 2022, and "100% Sahara Guitar" in 2024, all of which have received positive reviews. Etran de L'Aïr's music celebrates the dynamism of their hometown and has gained them recognition both locally and internationally.
